What are the rarest movie novelizations?
We’ve found that the rarest (and most valuable) movie novels typically fall within the horror genre. Movie novelizations based on horror movies tend to have smaller print runs, because they were aimed at a niche audience. Some examples of rare horror movie novels include every book in the Friday the 13th series, as well as those in the Halloween series. In good condition, we’ve seen these books fetch as much as $300 per novel!
Similarly, there are rare movie novelizations that were only printed in other countries and thus aren’t widely available in used book stores or on Ebay. An example of an international movie novel that is quite well known to U.S. audiences but is extremely rare is Mad Max and its sequel, The Road Warrior. These were only printed in Australia, and we’ve seen them sell for as much as $500 each! On the other hand, if you’re looking to pick up a copy of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, you’re in luck because this movie novel is pretty common.
