What is a movie novelization?

A movie novelization, or film novelization, is pretty much exactly what it sounds like — it’s a novel based on a movie. Another way of putting it would be to say that movie novelizations are novel versions of movies. These types of books, though less popular nowadays than they used to be, often serve as a promotional tie-in and are released in conjunction with a film, or soon after or before the film’s release date. Movie novelizations often contain a much richer story experience than you’d get just by watching the movie. The written format allows for much for more attention to detail to be given to character backgrounds, locations, subplots, descriptions of action sequences, and other rich details that can enhance your enjoyment of a film–even one you may have seen many times!
